My Priorities
- Smart Growth - Implement growth that works for everyone
- Affordable Housing - Implement measures to reduce/keep housing prices low
- Permissive - How can we say YES to citizens, not no
- Transparent - Clear communication with citizens
- Small - Small governments are inexpensive governments and prevent overreach
- Responsive - Quick to answer questions and requests
- Supportive - Encourage citizen initiatives and business development
Taxpayers deserve SOLUTIONS, not buzzwords
In my first 365 days in office, I hope to:
- Work to reduce impact fees outlined in IFC §8-8, that are ultimately passed onto the homeowner; hurting first time home buyers in Idaho Falls
- Maintain IFC § 10-7-5 to maintain right of way widths along main roads. I don't know what 40 years from now looks like but I want to maintain width along collector and arterial roads to allow for future growth.
- Reduce minimum setbacks and lot sizes for R1, R2, and R3 zoned properties found in Idaho Falls Code § 11-4-3. This will provide home builders the CHOICE to build smaller single-family homes that are more affordable
- Alter IFC § 10-1-8(D) and 11-6-4(F)(1) so that instead of city council being limited to appellate review (restricted to the record) of land use hearings it can review them as de-novo (as-new) on appeal. This provides elected members to have more input instead of un-elected appointees of the P&Z Commission or Adjustments Board having disproportionate say in public land-use hearings.
- Provide relief from IFC § 11-4-6 that requires homeowners to surrender property rights to build Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) on their property.
- Restrict IFC § 11-4-6(B)(7) that allows an ADU to have 1 street parking and 1 on property parking. Both parking spots need to be on property for obvious reasons, we can’t allow our public streets to become a battle ground for parking.
- Work with the mayor to revamp the building department. Idaho Falls can’t afford to encumber homeowners and builders with 18 months of red tape when other municipalities can get it done in 6 months.
